To answer his concern. He need to answer more questions. Such as; any fever, any history of trauma or fall, does the pain comes and goes or it is always there and does the pain intensity varies with breathing , any associated cough , any history of smoking etc

If the cough is productive what is the color of his sputum. For how many years he smoked and how many cigarettes a day. Does he feel pain when he touches that painful area of chest ?

Based on the information his pain is non-cardiac. It is related to his chest/lungs. He should visit his Local GP. If not possible then he can take over the counter medicines available in nearby pharmacy; Ibuprofen and any cough syp. ( local pharmacist will be helpful )

He has quitted smoking. No, there is no positive cardiac history in his family. He is not diabetic. The pain is pin pointing. It lasts for few minutes. After sometimes it reoccurs and then it becomes difficult for him to breath.
