Asking For Someone else, Sister, Female, 22 Years old, Lahore
My sister had RCT done to her lower 2nd molar. Today is 7th day post obturation. She has pain when she bites. The doctor has given whitish temporary filling and hasn’t put crown because the impacted wisdom tooth needs to be removed and the crown will be placed after the surgical extraction of the wisdom tooth. Why is this happening? Will the doctor have to remove the GP and do the painful procedure again?
can you upload pre-op & post-op x-rays?
You should go back to your dentist for re examination .
sometimes the material used to seal(or fill) the tooth flows outside the of the root and can cause temporary pain and tenderness in the tooth. it should be well managed with pain killers though and avoid eating on this side. do visit the dentist again or some other dentist to ensure that rct was properly done and there's no other cause.

The whitish temporary filling sits a little below the height of the tooth :(

that is irrelevant. an xray is required to look at the tooth and the work that's been done on it as well as clinical exam. the tenporary filling has nothing to do with it.

I have one question: the dentist gave used nerve block technique to anesthetize the tooth but when he would clean the canals or place GP inside them, it would sting bad. Why does the tooth not get numb despite getting local anesthesia? This shit is beyond me.

it should not hurt like that after anesthesia and especially at the time of finishing the rct. sometimes shen tooth is severely infected anesthesia isn't too effective and patient can expereince some stinging but if the case remains too uncomfortable and also at the time of obturation then ineffective anesthesia or technqiue was administered. many variables involved. i advise visitng a dentist so can be said for certain what's happening. hope this was helpfuk

an x-ray of the RCT treated tooth is required to answer your query
You should visit the dentist for proper checkup. X-ray should be done to confirm if RCT is done well. Or sometimes after filling high spots can also cause pain on bite so visit the dentist for proper evaluation.

When we do tooth fillings after RCT is done, there are some residual of filling material, which causes pain on bite sometimes. Don’t worry. Your dentist will check and grind it if in case there is any. It’s painless! Don’t be afraid.

If the pain is mild:
and prior to RCT if the patient was experiencing pain upon biting and after rct the pain has become milder,
periapical tissue requires some time to heal properly, meanwhile painkillers would be helpful.
A periapical x-ray would be helpful tho.

There was no pain at all before rct. I just had a filling done to the tooth and I actually went for the RCT of another tooth. But when the doctor saw this tooth, he advised RCT of this tooth and i got it done. Now, there’s pain when biting.

well then you require a proper clinical examination, with the x-ray in order to correctly diagnose the problem and then treat it accordingly
I'll suggest you to go to another dentist preferably an endodontist and gather an expert opinion over your case..

post an periapical x-ray of the root canal treated tooth and also the wisdom tooth.
aoa. u need to visit your dentist again.
amd if the problem persists then take another opinion. thanks. must most periapical xray of the treated tooth.. thanks.
Tell your dentist everything, ask for an xray done and post the pic here as well of xray, it shouldnt pain at this stage. It might be he has missed a canal or did rct pre time. Infection shouldnt be there before obturation.

Obturation was done in 3rd visit. The doctor kept cleaning the canals in first 2 visits as there was infection. He prescribed antibiotic like Zodaxil

depends is the gp extended outside the root apex if so then gp needs to be removed otherwise could just.be the damage of rct in the gum and will heal on it's own time
it can be cause of extruded GP or missed canals. Doctor should reevaluate by c
x.rays .
talk to your treating dentist first
