after proper evaluation there are many options...there is medicines for it and surgical option...if reason of pain is associated with any tooth then that issue is resolved as well....so get your mother checked at the nearby dental facility.
every procedure have their pros and cons...I've seen surgically treated patients having symptoms again...so it can recur...if the diagnosis is trigeminal neuralgia then medicine is another option but it has to be taken regularly...so it will be best to get a checkup...
