Asking for Husband, Male, 32 years old, Dha phase 6 karachi
Assalam O Alaikum My husband had a root canal about three years ago but now the ceramic tooth crown they placed instead of the tooth they took out has broken and fallen out.Now the original teeth root is exposed. Is there a procedure to place a ceramic crown? Secondly, latest x-ray showed a bit of infection in the gum and is painful can you recommend some medicineor antibiotic to cure it. Asking because today is sunday and all dental places are closed near our house.
walaikum as salaam
A new crown can be fixed over the RCT treated tooth. it would be convenient if u can share the pic here.
as for infection. if u have the image if X-ray. then do share that also so that a diagnosis can be made.
he can take a painkiller to control pain at the moment
W.salam
if that tooth is broken and only root is left then there are chances that tooth will not survive any more . if you show X ray. I'll guide you more about it . but based on your described scanerio it will extract if only root left . you can give him Tab. fastaid plus 50mg / synflex 550mg ( both are painkillers ) for his pain relief .
now coming to your question . depending upon tooth condition , if majority of tooth structure is still present then we can save that tooth with re-root canal treatment (Rotary) with post and core build-up to rebuild lost tooth structure then cement ceramic crown again .. but if tooth is not stable enough to survive more , it should be extracted and then you can go for dental implant .which is a best and most adequate replacement of missing tooth . I ll suggest you share his X ray here. I ll guide you exact treatment for him .

As the crown is broken the ceramic crown can't be placed....Now the extraction of remaining root is required as you can then go for implant option
For infection and pain to resolve give him tab. augmentin as an antibiotic to resolve the infection and tab.ansaid for pain relief.
For further guidance i will be needing X ray.
if the root and the bone around the root is healthy, it still can be built up for a crown. if the ceramic crown is intact, even the same can be reused, depending upon the condition of the root. can you upload the x-rays?
it needs to be assessed clinically if the infection gets controlled the post screw can be placed in order to save the tooth and crown to be placed on that
otherwise it should be extracted
