Talk to Endocrinologist on Dark Circles / Hypothyroidism

person-avatar

Asking for Self, Female, 36 years old, Karachi

My thyroid glands were removed in 2018 . I'm on thyroxine tablets . I regularly visit endocrinologist and my tsh and T4 are within normal ranges. Now problem is I have developed severe blackish type dark circles on and under the eyes . Which looks very bad as my complexion is fair and that black area looks very prominent on my face . And my eyes look tired and old too if I have some work load on some days. .what should I do . Is this because of thyroid issues or any other cause .

seems less likely to be related to thyroid , consult dermatologist for skin issue
if blood pressure is low then discuss for cortisol deficiency with your endocrinologist

Unlikely due to the thyroid issue
as you mentioned, TFTs are stable, then not related to thyroid
in regards to checking 9 am cortisol, if you don't have classical features, then there is no need for unnecessary investigations

Apparently it has nothing to do with your hypothyroidism, however, Vit D deficiency and anaemia can present in this manner. These should be tested.

Dark circles under the eyes are unlikely to be directly caused by thyroid issues, especially if your TSH and T4 levels are normal. Common causes include fatigue, aging, dehydration, allergies, or lifestyle factors such as stress and lack of sleep.
Take 8-9 hours of sleep daily, stay hydrated, take less salt, take at least 8-10 glasses of water daily, and maintain a healthy diet rich in iron and vitamin C.
Use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 40, and use eye cream containing retinol, or vitamin C.
If the issue persists, consult a dermatologist for other treatment options.
