Asking for Father, Male, 68 years old, Lahore
My Father is 68 years of age (CKD, Hypertension, CABG(2008)) was diagnosed with IPF recently. He was prescribed with Prednisolone with high dosage (45mg/day for 30 days) initially and then reduced dosage in subsequent months to 30 mg (30 days) and 15 mg (30 days) respectively. He is experiencing High Suger levels now and HBA1c has also reached to a value of 7.8 . He didn't have diabetes before. Please suggest.
Needs to be initiated on life style therapy treatment ( usually combination of metformin with sitagliptin +/- sulfonylurea).
He also needs screening (DEXA scan) and medication for prevention of glucocorticoid induced osteoporosis .
Please see a good general practitioner or an Endocrinologist of your choice.
Thanks

Many Thanks for the responses Dr. Awais and Dr. Maliha. Really appreciated.
Could you please also help in regards to how can we find out if this Steroid induced Diabetes is permanent or Temporary (can be back to normal if steroids are stopped).
This is steroid induced DM and generally ameliorate if Pt is not previously diabetic by reducing dose of steroids, it is treated same way as regular DM , if HBa1c >9 insulin should be preferred
