Asking for Mother, Female, 60 years old, Karachi
My mother had an hysterectomy surgery in August, and due to intestine came out after opening of stitches she had intestine surgery in September. Now her wound is completely healed off. and she cam back to her routine work. Before operation she never had history of high sugar. But after operation her Fasting sugar level is 140 and Random Sugar level is 230 to 250. Doctor said she will be on insulin in her entire life now. I want to ask a question that can she have any tablet instead of insulin as she didnt take insulin for 3 weeks and her sugar level increased to 288.
it seems to be type 2 diabetes found incidentally after operation
because chances of getting ur pancreas injured during hysterectomy are very minimal.
so we can try medications other than insulin usualy they work .
Initially Insulin with tablet also.
After 1 month if sugar levels normal then insulin can be stop.
Describe her age, weight and lifestyle first and there must be HbA1c current then we can decide better and initially I recommend lifestyle modifications and yes with tablets it is possible to control the blood sugar.
