Talk to Ent Surgeon on How Long Does Recovery Be Required For Tonsillectomy?

person-avatar

Asking For Self, Female 25, Karachi

As salam o alikum. i had my tonsillectomy 15 days ago but the problem is that I'm working as a cabin crew and in my profession I need to be 100% physically fit. because we have to carry heavy crates and we'll be required to shout at the top of our lungs during any emergency. how long do I have to wait before going to work? as it might bleed during flight because of air pressure including all these points also.

under normal conditions .....a rest of 2-3 weeks is ok...but as U r a special case ,travelling up in air, in pressurized cabin...I suggest 4 weeks rest. Ur surgeon will guide U well after seeing Ur condition.do consult him.
?Happy to help...

Assalamualaikum, Thank you for your question. The post operative risks are mainly bleeding and that too is usually 3-7 days after the operation. In rare instances it can be Upto 2 week after surgery.
In your situation, you are already past that period and , I gather, are complication free. You can go back to work with a mask and advised to eat normal food as chewing helps with the healing and promotes saliva production which helps keep the mouth healthy. You may still see " White Patches" where your tonsils were and that will clear in the next couple of weeks.
Hope this helps.
