Please tag an ophthalmologist. my friend got an eye exam where the doctor dilated his eyes. the doctor said his eyes are perfectly normal. but then he read that eye dilation itself can cause angle closure glaucoma. now he is afraid. he went for a follow up check up his iop was normal and doctor checked his eyes with torch light this time without dilation. is there any chance that he might get angle closure glaucoma from dilation? overall his vision is normal and there are no symptoms. can torch light detect closed angles?
This is only possible if he already has risk of glaucoma. There's nothing to worry if he doesn't has history of previous episodes of blurring. Take it easy.
dilation is necessary to see retina or posterior chamber of the eye if iop is normal then it's nothing to worry about
If he has no previous history of glaucoma, he need not worry
