Asking for Other, Female, 7 years old, London
Assalam o alaikum can you please post my query as I am really upset. I am living in London, UK and have a 7year daughter with crohns disease. UK government is currently following the strategy of "herd immunization" therefore the schools here are still open. today 120 students in my daughter's school were absent , the reason being 'self isolation'. As my daughter is on immunosuperesent, so her immune system is weak. she's taking her medication since she was 3.5 years old. please can any Dr. here give me sincere advice whether to send her to school or not. As a mother im really worried. I'v been trying to contact her Dr. here for two days now but unfortunately his secretary is off and will be back by 23rd of march, and I haven't got any response for the voice messages I left. Can any Dr. here shed a light on IBD and coronavirus and how to deal with it especially if it's the ca
Wa Alaimum us Salam
according to guidelines of BSG People taking immunosuppressants for their Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis are not at increased risk of catching novel coronavirus, however they may be at extra risk of complications from the virus if they are infected.Patients are advised to take precautions to avoid infection through good personal hygiene and avoiding unnecessary close contact with people who are unwell. if people who are taking immunosuppressants are infected with corona virus they have higher risk of developing complications. to be on safer side social distancing is advisable for your daughter.
In my opinion she needs isolation.
