Asking For Mother, Female 66, Karachi
my mother electrolytes test shows that potassium is lower than normal. Please help me why it's low and what we can do to improve it.
If not diabetic and hypertensive, give her ORS and banana
Give her potassium rich food.bananas,dates,honey.
If she is not diabetic then give her bananas to eat
Plz mention medicine she is currently taking for possible reasons of low potassium. And also simply repeat the labs once to confirm it and also mention reason for testing.

hi
this is something nothing to worry about at 3.4 its normalish low.no therapeutic intervention needed as my colleague mentioned about look for medications some blood pressure tablets can cause low k it worth repeating in 3-4 wks if values further lower than this might need some consideration.

levels are not markedly low, hence nothing to worry about. You can repeat her labs after few weeks.
You should take food rich in potassium like bananas, oranges, dates, potatoes, spinach etc. Oral tablets or injectable potassium is not required for such a slight deficiency of potassium.
May i know if she is raking any other medicine for any other problem ..and what is the range

4. any previous investigations done
5. and if possible to share the real test result slip it ll be better
