Asking For Mother, Female 56, Karachi
Hi, My mother, age 56 has started taking high bp medicines since 9th Feb. We took her to AKUH for knee pain consultation, and at the time of basic assessments, they found her bp was 210/110. They gave Novarsac 5mg. After returning to home, her BP didn't decrease and we took her to ER.
In ER, they did her ECG which was normal Alhamdulillah & gave her Extor 10/160 for one week. Since the day she started this medicine, there was a headache and facial redness.
Tests were done for lipid profile, sugar, thyroid. Alhamdulillah most of them were normal. Her cholesterol levels are slightly increased and has no sugar. After a week, I again took her for consultation in internal medicine at AKUH. The doctor prescribed her concor 2.5 mg, and Rovista 10mg for cholesterol, and keeping in view her headache and facial redness, the doctor reduced the Extor strength to 5/160. The doctor asked to report after 1 month.
But I am worried as her BP is Alhamdulillah stable but slight headache and rednes
find a specialist physician and attach to him for proper management and regular follow up
hello,
i am really impressed by the medical record you kept about your mother. i can assure you that making a b.p chart will help any GP you visit. the chart should record atleast consist of 3 values i.e on morning, evening and at night.
it is very important to monitor her urine output too as elevated b.p can directly or indirectly be related to her kidneys.
her further medical history would be required to any doctor you visit such as DM, and other medications she is on, family Hx.

hello,
for headache (as for now) please provide her a over the counter (OTC) painkiller (e.g paracetamol)
and for the flare up you are describing it can be either due to a reation, change in body temperature. i can give you a better idea after seeing her redness and the lab reports.

Long-term problems take time to settle.
A chance encounter with BP during a routine examination means hat she had hogh BP, but with no specific symptoms; her body had adjusted to high BP.
Now that medications have lowered the BP, the body will take some time to re-adjust to this lowered level.
At first, the body will feel like the blood pressure is too low (when actually, it is in the normal range) and it will give you symptoms of low BP accordingly.
The headache could be directly linked with this phenomenon.
As for facial redness, it could be explained by this as well, and could also be due to some other medication she may be taking (for her knee etc.)
Give the medicines time to work, and give her body time to adjust to them.
As said by Dr Husna earlier, stick to one physician till that doctor himself/herself refers you to someone else.
