Asking for Mother, Female, 45 years old, Karachi
My mother had a slightly high TSH level. She consulted an endocrinologist for that but he said that this is not much so no need of thyroxine. Her HB level is 9 she feels weakness all the time. She cant sleep at night.. until and unless she takes lexotanil. That too doesnt work much sometimes. One more thing, she never ever had irregular periods or any problem related to that but lately she has been having breast pain approximately 2 or 3 days prior to menstruation. I'm really worried.. is it something serious?

AoA.
1. While she may not have requires treatment then, maybe now things will be different. Get TSH done again or consult endocrinologist again
2. Insomnia is tricky as she had been taken lexotonil. It is designed to be a short term solution but sadly many of our patients take it beyond this time. Unfortunately it can't be stopped immediately either. A psychiatry colleague can help guide you on how to get off it over time. This will help with sleep pattern also.
3. Having some pain before menstruation can be normal in females but in context of thyroid disease it will be appropriate to have a proper breast checkup from a surgeon
4. It does seem that your mother will need to see different specialists for these different problems but this is for the best and will alleviate much anxiety in this case.
