Asking For Mother, Female 58, Lahore
is it safe for a diabetic patient to go for CT scan with this serum creatinine result.she is advised to intake more water before and after CT scan.
she should drink plenty of water for two days, Repeat this test again, if it improves she can go for CT angio
Totally agree with the advise , also to recheck the creatinine after the CT
CT scan plain can be done. CT with contrast is NOT advisable
follow the given advise ? lots of prayer for the patient.
your primary consultant who has ordered the CT scan should corrdinate with a nephrologist and the radiology department to devise a management plan. Patients need multidisciplinary care. one test report without any history or comprehensive investigatiin findings are not adequate for anyone to give any advice on a text message.
If it is plan CT is ok but if they are doing with contrast.... Nephrologist opinion should be taken
ok to have CT scan, don't worry
please book an online appointment for further discussion
Yes it's fine to go for CT scan
Yes she can
as advised to take more water
yes.if c.t scan is necessary
yes for sure if CT scan is necessary
and drink more water as advised
Short answer is yes, it is safe to go for ct with contrast in this case. Do follow the advice for increased water intake before and after.( upto 3 hours before and 6 to 12 hours after).
the long answer is that getting ct contrast done in this case has a relatively increased risk of causing kidney damage. so it is about weighing the risk of cancer scan complication vs burden of disease due to missed diagnoses of problem for which ct is advised. ct without contrast would be a better option if possible
Plain CT could be performed. Contrast not advised
plain CT can be done but Contrast should not be given without Nephrologist opinion. Also, please repeat Creatinine after plenty of fluids intake and consult Nephrologist if raised.
yes.CT should be done with more water intake
No. plz consult a nephrologist first then go for any kind of CT scan ( with or without contrast ).
Yes, you can do with less nephrotoxic contrast media.

The CIN Consensus Working Panel found that adequate intravenous volume expansion with isotonic crystalloids (1-1.5 mL/kg/h), 3-12 hours before the procedure and continued for 6-24 hours afterward, decreases the incidence of CIN in patients at risk.

if depends on why do you want to proceed for CT scan. if its really important for treatment or diagnosis then yes but only under nephrologist care and good hydration status of patient
Yes but under strict protocols
Kindly consult nephrologist.
yes... ct scan can be done.... hydrate the patient well and then check creatine regularly
yes but it's better to hydrate patient well before and after test and then check Serum creatinine regularly for 3-4 days.
Yes she can undergo CT Scan. Just make sure she drinks plenty of fluids and monitor S. Cret afterwards
Yes, but ensure hydration before CT
Yes!! There wont be any complications regarding such Cret. value as far as She hydrates herself as much She can!! and yes monitor after test values as well!! moreover depends upon patient to patient condition!!
Patient should hydrate herself adequately before the CT, if it's necessary. CT contrast is nephrogenic, therefore you should consult a nephrologist too. Or monitor RFTs later.
which area of CT Scan
yes absolutely fine if she is conscious and well oriented in time place and person
yes at this level of creatinine CT scan is possible .... hydration in important
AoA yeah u can go for scan but keep the patient hydrated or give 500 ml normal saline after the test
dont do with contrast
yes she can get a CT, do repeat the test after the scan as well. and stay well hydrated
yes she can go for it with proper hydration and precautions
Yes but care must be taken if CT with contrast. Repeat kidney tests after CT
CT without contrast she can do
but not with contrast
if she want take CT with contrast then must take advise from nephrologist
no its not advised
get it done without dye
with this creatinine level usually CT scan with contrast is not advisable because of potential renal damage. If at all necessary sometimes the nephrologist ask for proper hydration or may do post scan dialysis. Better to consult nephrologist
no with this level of cretinine the CT scan with contrast is not advisable
U can go for plain CT scan.
Looks like diabetic nephropathy.
Damage of nephrons start early and srum creatinine start to rise late so I advise don't use contrast for ct scan.
Avoid Contrast CT. Go for plain CT.
CT Scan plain is safe... but contrast enhanced CT will lead to kidney problems
Yes this is safe for a diabetic patient to go for CT scan but not with IV contrast because in case of IV contrast deranged Renal functions will make kindly unable to clear dye of contrast from body
yes she can go for CT without contrast , but in case if she needs contrast CT it's based on risk and benefit basis , her gfr is more than 60 so if she needs urgent CT with contrast thn she can go for that but iv hydration is mandatory .
Normally functional kidney is having value of estimated GFR GREATER THAN 60. However, for CT, eGFR > 45 indicates no increased risk of kidney damage from contrast material. eGFR > 30, but less than 45 indicates that while it is safe to get contrast material, there is a small risk of causing kidney damage. In that situation, we will inject additional fluid into the patient’s vein before and after the contrast material injection. This hydration is effective to prevent any renal damage. In your patient eGFR is 45.3. Therefore there is no increased risk, however I will still advise fluid infusion before and after contrast.
no
In case the CT scan is with contrast , this creatinine level at 59 years of age , may rarely ,damage the kidneys but then your doctor has to decide if it’s absolutely essential .if it’s a must then go ahead , take lots of water before and 3-4 days after the ct scan test, stop metformin 24 hours before the scan and repeat creatinine 2-3 days after the scan .
What is Contrast Induced Nephropathy (CIN)?
CIN is a rare disorder and occurs when kidney problems are caused by the use of certain contrast dyes. In most cases contrast dyes used in tests, such as CT (computerized tomography) and angiograms, have no reported problems. About 2 percent of people receiving dyes can develop CIN. However, the risk for CIN can increase for people with diabetes, a history of heart and blood diseases, and chronic kidney disease (CKD). For example, the risk of CIN in people with advanced CKD (glomerular filtration rate (GFR) below 30 mL/min/1.73m2), increases to 30 to 40 percent. The risk of CIN in people with both CKD and diabetes is 20 to 50 percent.
if absolutely necessary then may be done with vigorous hydration. otherwise should avoid
