Talk to General Physician on Severe Iron Deficiency

person-avatar

Asking for Self, Female, 24 years old, KARACHI

What's the correct dose of daily iron supplements for someone who has a ferrittin level of 4.3. Dr previously gave me 100mg Polymalt tablet once a day but that did not help increase the iron, it dropped further from 5.9 to 4.3 in 9 months. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

As rightly advised below, supplements have bare minimum absorption hence in your given levels immediately opt for venofer injections without delay!!

first of all you need to be evaluated for decreased iron levels..is your diet deficient in iron or is there poor absorption?if its due to poor absorption then whats causing that?
and yes as suggested by other respectable drs over here you might need injectables for proper iron replenishment

First of all the cause of Anaemia should be determined. You may be having excessive blood loss during periods or from G I Tract or there may be lack of absorption etc. Then it has to be treated accordingly.
