Talk to General Physician on Spike In Blood Sugar

person-avatar

Asking For Mother, Female 58, Lahore

Does Lexoberon syrup (which is very sweet in taste due to some artificial sweeteners) increase the blood sugar levels in patient with type 2 diabetes? I am observing a spike after its usage in my mother's BSR.

laxuberon contains sodium picosulfate as the active ingredient and saccharin as the sweetener. Saccharin is a non-sugar sweetener.
It really doesn't make a big difference if syrups are used in diabetics.

not drops or tabs. it is syrup

Family Medicine in Lahore - Dr. Muhammad Izhar Waris

Not really. Adequate water intake good sugar control, routine medications on time can help a lot. if possible an evening walk for 15-20 mins will be of great help and will reduce blood sugar levels. Skipped meals, skipped medication doses are the major contributors in high blood sugar levels. So better to check the basic things first plus if there is hypertension medication for that on time is important equally

she is eating while flour chapati for 5 to 6 days. can this be a reason too?

Family Medicine in Lahore - Dr. Muhammad Izhar Waris

Yes, it can be the reason as bread and other refined flour foods can increase blood sugar levels. So better to wave off chappati. But can be taken 1-2 times in a week once sugar levels get settled return to normal diet.

White flour has more carbohydrates and thus increases blood sugar. Avoid white flour as well . How high does her BSR go?

Assalam o Alaikum. Laxoberon contains lactulose along with main ingredient Sodium Picosulphate. Lactulose is a form of sugar which increases blood sugar. I would suggest using Dulcolax Sugar free syrup or Laxoberon tablets. All laxatives should be used with plenty of water.

It depends on how much rise in the blood sugar do you find after giving the syrup? Also, what is the current control level of blood sugar? Average readings? Ideally, the syrup should not be raising the blood sugar enough to be worried about

Thanks for choosing the platform for your query. I m surprised no one is asking the reason of using laxaburon at first place. Why is patient constipated?
How s blood sugar control?
,when was HbA1c levels. ?
Any recent appointment with a specialist ?
How about other diabetes complications ?
Any changes made to diet recently?
.so if you are seriously interested to know the reason then consult your doctor directly or online appointment for detailed checkup.

it's pretty much possibly to fluctuate the blood sugar levels with such additives. I would recommend switch it to Skilax drops (if no known previous allergy) 10 drops diluted in a cup of water at night. By all means prolonged use of lexatives should be avoided. This was a general advice but please follow your doctor for details.
