Talk to General Practitioner on Severe Acid Reflux Or Gerd

person-avatar

Asking for Self, Male, 29 years old, Karachi

I'm having severe acid reflux or gerd..

Can you tell me diet plan for this..? TIA

Member of Marham-Forum

First you need to avoid spicy food ,tea, lemons, oranges.Have small portions of food and dont lie down after 30-45mins of eating.Dinner should be at least 3-4hrs before your bedtime.Have sone milk when you feel reflux. You can eat everything but less spicy n less oily.Have small quantity of curry (salan). More of vegetables and daals than meat products.if you’re a smoker you must consider stopping it.Dont take brufen or similar medicine for any pain-take paracetamol instead

Start healthy life.
Take a walk after dinner, don't lie down immediately after any meal.
Take lighter meals at dinner and schedule it so that you have 2-3 hours before bed.
Meanwhile Take Tb. Omeprazole 1+0+0 after breakfast.
Try to do lighter exercises and activities. Sedentary lifestyle is a big contributing factor for acidity.

Any specific lighter meal? Or diet chart to completely cure this problem?

It will not resolve immediately. Will take time. Nothing specific. But you need to avoid spicy & oily things. Use dairy products more such as milk, yoghurt, start use of more fruits and veggies rather than meats. In meat prefer white meat(fish, chicken) over beef. You can take spicy item like once or twice a week. Cont Tb. Omeprazole OD

Avoid Caffeinated drinks(tea, coffee) or decrease the number and quantity. Avoid taking NSAIDs (brufen, aspirin etc). You can use paracetamol as painkiller.

If overweight reduce your weight.
Get consultation from a physician
Get X ray Barium Meal for upper GIT done to see if the Stomach is in place and hiatus hernia status.
See if any particular type of food triggers it.
Have light breakfast Bran toast egg boiled and oatmeal cereal. NO tea or coffee
For lunch and dinner keep your food non spicy. Soup, Grilled meat or fish Daal and Bran bread lightly buttrred.
Have small breaks for light snack in between meals.
Caps Dexxoo 30 mg morning and evening before meals.
Gaviscon Suspension 1 Tablespoon after meals three times a day and before bedtime
Do this for 2 weeks and review.
May Allah Grant you Shifaa.

I had done endoscopy in 2011.
Diagnosis: mild gastritis and hiatus hernia.
I took medicine for 3 months I felt ok but after sometime it started again but I took it on a lighter way i used gaviscon and mucaine. It's been 8 years now and it's getting worse now I went for stool antigen. Report is negative.

What should I do now?
When I take medicines I feel ok when I left I feel same as I before..
