Talk to General Surgeon on Possible Anal Fissure/fistula

hi, I developed an anal abscess around 1.5 months back and I asked a question about a possible anal fistula and who to consult for it. the problem is that for the past 2 weeks , I had no problem or pain in the region but suddenly due to maybe diarrheic episode, I feel the problem once again , I understand that it might be an anal fistula and requires immediate checkup but the problem is that I have my exams in November which are my finals for medical college, should I still get it checked as I know that the solution is surgery and nothing else. is it a very severe emergency or can I wait for 2 months? your consultation regarding this matter would be appreciated.

Fistula is not emergency. it can become painful if there is infection or abscess otherwise this may remain silent for months and years. If you want to delay surgery, when pus discharge starts and there is pain, take Tab ciprofloxacin 500 mg BID and Tab metronidazole 500 mg TID for 5-7 days. you can delay for few months. Good luck for exams

Fistula needs surgery. not severe emergency, this can continue years and years. But any time you can develop abscess and need urgent surgery. This can happen in exam days. November is too far, so do surgery. After few days, you can go to normal life
