Talk to General Surgeon on Suggestion About Colonoscopy

Aoa.. I was diagnosed with IBS D almost 7,8 years ago.. But I have been having constant flareups, extreme pain, watery diarrhea and low iron levels, since 4years .. h. pylori was also positive 2years ago.. I did whole course of antibiotics.. last year the gap between the flareups reduced.. and pain with vomiting also started.. I was told to get endoscopy and biopsy.. result was active gastritis and h. pylori was again active.. I did the course again..
This year flareups are increased I changed my doc.. he is advising me to get colonoscopy.. I am terrified.. I want genuine opinion on should I get colonoscopy or not..
walaikumAsalam ma'am ibd diagnosed on colonoscopy in your first visit? isn't it? then again colonoscopy or it's first time?

No I was not diagnosed with IBD before.. was diagnosed with IBS type D.. no colonoscopy was done than..
Now this new doc is suggesting to have it done ..

Not IBD, it says IBS-D which is IBS diarrhea predominant.

You need tests for celiac disease (anti TTG). Stool antigen for H Pylori to see if antibiotics treated the cause. Stool culture for bacteria/parasites and stool calprotectin + elastase. A repeat gastroscopy + colonoscopy to r/o lots of disease which can cause this symptoms.
Also check Thyroid function tests and full iron studies.

Abdominal cramps , diarrhoea with off and on blood or mucus mixed stools : if these symptoms are of longer duration then COLONOSCOPY AND BIOPSY is a must .
Initially treated with medication may give remission for long time . Young patients with intractable symptoms may ( not always) require surgery .
