Talk to Gynecologist on Dosage Of Folic Acid In Pre-Pregnancy

person-avatar

Asking for Self, Female, 27 years old, Sharjah

Assalam u Alayikum! I am planning a baby but I haven't started it yet. I went to the gynaecologist, she did vaginal ultrasound, she said my one ovary is fine but other ovary has little PCOS, but she said that I can still conceive and she prescribed me 5mg folic acid.

This is the maximum dosage, while daily dosage should be around 400-800mcg. Is 5mg too much for me or I should follow the doctor's prescription?

Waiting for your response. Thanks!

400mcg would be enough

Folic acid 400 micrograms is prophylactic dose recommended in early pregnancy . Its active form of folic acid.
Folic acid 5mg can be taken as it is not active form
