Asking for Other, Female, 25 years old, Karachi

Can folic acid 5mg be given to a 4 weeks pregnant? She’s travelling today and find out just now that she’s pregnant. Can’t book appointment with any dr this soon since she has to leave in an hour. Should we give her folic acid 5mg? Or maxfol 400mg? She ll be first time mom. TIA

for normal pregnancy, 400 ug per day is recommended, though even taking 5mg per day will not do any harm.
5mg per day is absolutely necessary only for those pregnant women who are taking anti-seizure medicines.
