how old is this CT or Doppler study?
is patient taking some OCPs?
needs some investigations 1- Protein C, 2- Protein S, 3- Antithrombin III, 4- Factor V Leiden functional assay, PT, APTT.
start anticoagulant preferably LMWH such as clexane under supervision.
replace clexane with rivaroxaban afterwards.

important thing to consider is your mother on any medications?
If yes then dnt go for factor assays just now.Any pev history of leg swelling ?
Kindly get all work up done to exclude God forbid Cancerous cause.As the site of thrombosis is unusual.
Get tested for JAK 2 mutation.
Also for APLS antibodies
