Asking For Self, Female 59, Shah Latif Town Karachi
Dear Doctors,
My mother's triglycerides level is 498 mg/dl which is quite high, she has now avoided all oily foods, need a suggestion from doctors that how can she reduce triglyceride level ? which should she eat more in diet ? and what should she avoid in diet ?
Your mother means she will be above 80 bcz you are 60 so this tg is not dangerous if the rest lipid profile is normal. Still she should avoid fats and faty meals
It’s very much high. It’s risk factor of heart problem and stroke. Her detailed history and clinical examination is required. I can consult for it. Dietary restrictions alone are not gonna work.

Your mother’s HDL, which is good cholesterol is very low besides her high triglycerides. She can use diet-plan, vitamin Niacin, and drugs like a statin or lipid but a better way is to provide all her medical history for any diabetes? Any high blood pressure, any kidney problem, any heart issue so that total risk can be assessed before managing her high triglycerides.

O can understand it’s worrying for u. But just triglyceride high level isn’t going to b enough to start treatment. She need propenderiam clinical examination and may need few more lab tests to manage her properly. Sono would suggestive to consult in person for betterment of ur mother.
