it's an infectious emergency.risk of transmission depends on type of exposure. if you have insertiv or receptive anal or vaginal,condomless intercourse with an HIV positive patient then risk of transmission is high. post exposure prophylaxis(PEP) is recommended with in 72 hrs of exposure. PEP is the Sam as treatment of HIV and consists of 3 anti HIV drugs to be taken for a definite period .it has proven efficacy to reduce the risk of transmission. you should act fast if you are exposed. regards
