Asking for Father, Male, 56 years old, Karachi

Salaam. My father is a patient of Hep C.(treated) and diabatic. He was having urine problem so his Urologist prescribed him Augmentin 1 gram. But by mistake the pharmacy boy gave 1000mg. He took it once and after almost 5 hours he was feeling dizzy and cold. I am feeling worried. Does this will cause him any harm?

Hi, thanks for sharing ur concern. Firstly do not worry about the antibiotic dose as 1g is equal to 1000mg (it means u have given him the correct dose). But the concern is that why is he feeling dizzy and cold. Plz check his blood sugar level, blood pressure, temperature and ask him for any chest tightness, fast racing of the heart, neck pain, ear pain, headache ? When does he feel dizzy ? any change in his recent medications ? Need to know more about his symptoms to know the cause of his dizziness. hope this helps, stay home stay safe.

Hi , actually 1 gm or 1000 mg is the same thing . He might have drug allergy to augmentin . It is advised that you should avoid augmentin now . Get his Urine R/E and urine C/S done and then give antibiotics according to sensitivity Regards

Wasalam . firstly, it is unlikely the augmentin causes dizziness , and 1000mg is equal 1gm . Now dizziness can be caused by various reason in diabetic , including low sugar , neuropathy , heart rhythm changes , neurological issues or even ear issues . He must visit doctor to examine physically and investigations.

Thank you everyone for such an amazing response. He felt better later but again other day same thing happened after taking the tablet. He had online consultation and Dr prescribed him Augmentin. He been taking Augmentin before aswell but this thing never happened. Isn’t because of high mg? Before he had 650mg i guess and now 1000? Should i stop him for taking this tab?

I read your complain, 1gm is equal to 1000mg, as pts is case of HepC so many reason we can think. Do you have any recent investigations like CBC LFT ultrasound abdomen if yes then share. After that will tell you further
