Asking for Self, Female, 20 years old, Burewala
I was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis 4 months ago. One doctor said that the solution to this is thymactomy while the other said that it is not necessary yet, we can control it with medicines. I just want to know that the only solution to this is thymactomy? And if we dont go for the surgery option, what will be its worst effects on my body? After 2 to 3 years? Can I just take the medicines to be completely recovered?
Need to see you contact Marham
Yu need detailed assessment .. not every patient pf myasthenia need thymemectomy if your disease is controlled on drugs then we cant delay pr defer surgery. Book an appointment for detailed checkup and discussion
Thymectomy is part of the treatment, not the solution for all patients, because disease course and severity is variable in every patient. Thymectomy has good results if performed within 2 to 3 years of disease onset. it doesn't mean that you will not be kept on any medications. It can reduce patient's need for medications and reduce severity of the disease. The early-onset, severe myasthenia, female gender and thymic hyperplasia benefit the most.
