Asking for Mother, Female, 45 years old, Karachi
My mother is suffering from spondylitis since 2 years and now when she feels pain she used meloxicam 7.5mg mostly once, twice or thrice in a month...I want to know...Is continuous use of NSAIDs (meloxicam) can cause any problem in future related to kidney, stomach or heart...plz guide me
Nsaid does cause gastric ulce. so be careful in taking NSAIDS. Get an appointment for other modalities. so they may help your mother
I am sorry about her feeling pain but you know spondylitis is sometimes associated with stiffness and pain especially in the morning, if she is needing NSAIDs that infrequently then I am happy about it but keeping in view the side effects of NSAIDs on stomach and kidneys especially you can try using some topical NSAIDs (applying on the skin) and there are numerous light exercises that can even prevent the pain. We can have a detailed talk as how to keep your mother comfortable and away from the side effects of unnecessary medicines in detail. Having said that you have to understand that I will always be a balance of benefit and harm in your mothers case as she is having a long standing disease that will come and go, I hope it works for you, thank you
Ankylosing spondylitis is a diease of the spine, in which there is stiffness and pain of the back from neck to the back, the vertebra get fused together causes a curved posture, there is no permanent cure but, paun killers, muscle relaxants, physical therapy, exercise cand reduce the pain, increase mobility, and if nothing helps there is always a surgical option, pain killers off and on can be taken, but not on a regular basis cause they can affect kidney functions and can cause Gastritis...
