person-avatar

Asking for Other, Male, 61 years old, Rawalpindi/Islamabad

Asking for someone I know. Her father is a terminal cancer patient and got diagnosed with signet ring cell carcinoma of the esophagus/stomach last year. He is getting worse with each single day but the unusual thing is that he blanks out and goes into a frozen state at times. He doesn’t move and doesn’t respond. Just stares ahead. This happens for a few minutes. He doesnt remember these episodes later. They took him to ER but the medical officer couldn’t make anything out of it. He said his CT scan of brain was clear and had no bleeds. Patient has constant headaches and dizziness. He has gone through 7 rounds of paclitaxel carbo. He is 61 years old and weight is now 60 kg or less. Last chemo was in mid March. Patient doesn’t eat much anymore. Sleeps most of the time. Can not sit up or get up most of the time. They urgently need a full time helper too and information about hospice care. Please share any good leads related to hospice care and attendant. Patient lives in Bahria Town

Dear concern,
It looks like this patient is trapped in various complications of cancer.
one of which is brain involvement. From the history it looks like he is suffering from seizures or fits.
Simple CT scan can not show cancer involvemet. He needs to visit a neurologist followed by MRI brain with contrast and EEG test.
Meanwhile his nutrition care must be done, otherwise this will worsen the situation.
If he takes orally then well if not he may need to pass NG tube for regular meals.
