dear there are so many possible serious causes to cause shortness of breath on exertion/activity .off course obesity and being over wt is one of them if your symptoms have a bit rapid in onset or you have some symptoms to suggest possible chest or cardiac issues please see a physician before you see a dietitian.This symptoms must be taken seriously and obesity is a diagnosis of exclusion.
basic investigation one would do for this is
fbc , u/e lft tft, and chest x ray and get it review by a clinician
