person-avatar

Asking for Father, Male, 71 years old, Karachi

My father is undergoing chemotherapy for prostate cancer from Kiran hospital. His oncologist is Dr. Amir maqbool. He had his one session up till now and his next session was due on 2nd April but due to the lockdown, it has been delayed for at least a month. What are the repercussions of delaying chemotherapy sessions?

He had been taking casodex for the past five years, PSA was under control with it but recently it stopped working.
Anyways, thanks for your advice.

This is the problem all over. We are doing chemotherapy at Cancer Foundation Hospital (opposite Aziz Bhatti Park) in some selected cases after explaining the pros and cons in this situation.

I think the con is that the patient can be at high risk of getting infected by coranavirus coz of low immunity and age. So it's better to stay at home for few weeks. Is this perspective right?

This perspective of staying home is not completely right or wrong.
If this lock down and quarantine lasts for months, progression of disease can be fatal then. We better measure the pros and cons and then decide accordingly.

Thank you for the query
Delay of few days is not issue but otherwise the delay can affect the outcome.
You can get the chemotherapy from somewhere else apart from KIRAN till the conditions get back to normal.
You can also get it done from pak onco care +042-32591427,
If you plan to get it done from there, please take all the reports of your father as well.
Regards
