Talk to Orthopedic Surgeon on Fracture In Clavicle

person-avatar

Asking for Wife, Female, 33 years old, Karachi

My wife has suffered an accident and fractured her left clavicle. The ortho specialist said there will be no intervention, and just put a tight 8 bandage around her shoulder and instructed it to get rebandaged twice a week to make sure it remains tight. 6 weeks recovery time has been suggested. X-rays are being attached for reference. Please advice if what has been suggested is appropriate or something more needs to be done?

most of clavicle fractures are treated without operation.
Bandage is usually not required.a simple polysling around shoulder for four weeks then start gentle movement.
if joint is not moved for long, it can get stiff.

If there is no displacement of fracture fragments and if there is no tenting of overlying skin then nothing further to be done

we will do cold laser in this situation and earlier the better while its as acute so it can heal faster and properly.

Thnx for opinion, there are 2 xray films,no date of exposure is mentioned on them,in both xray films, there is difference in fracture reduction. How ever most of clavicle fractures r managed non operatively,so is this one also.As u said, tight 8 bandage, this is not tight but figure 8 bandage.4 weeks r sufficient to put this fracture in such bandage. If u have consulted orthopaedic surgeon, then u must follow periodically as he advised u.but y u felt the need of 2nd opinion?

Dr. Dileep Kumaar: The X-rays were taken an hour after the accident took place. Both X-rays at the same time, but with different position of the hand... Need for 2nd opinion arose because someone told me that the figure 8 bandage is not needed in cases like these.
