Here are my suggestions for managing a cough in a 4-month-old baby at home without using syrup coferb or other medications:

- Clear nasal congestion - Use a nasal aspirator or bulb syringe filled with saline solution to suction out mucus. This can help loosen coughs.

- Humidify the air - Run a humidifier in the baby's room to add moisture. Dry air can irritate their breathing.

- Try baby vapor rub - Apply a small amount of homeopathic vapor rub to the feet or chest. The menthol can help soothe cough reflexes.

- Keep baby elevated - Hold or lay the baby upright during feedings and tummy time to prevent spit up from irritating their throat.

- Give warm baths - The steam from a warm bath can help loosen mucus for easier coughing.

- Massage their back - Gently rubbing or patting the back between the shoulder blades may ease coughing.

- Offer comfort - Make sure the baby is soothed, held skin-to-skin if possible. Minimize stressors like smoke or crying that can provoke coughs.

- Stay hydrated - Breastmilk or formula is best for hydration. Offer small, frequent feeds to a stuffy-nosed baby.

If coughing worsens or is accompanied by rapid breathing, chest indrawing or blueness, seek medical advice right away. But for most mild-to-moderate coughs at this age, home remedies usually suffice with supportive care from parents.
