Here are some home treatment options I would recommend for a 4-month-old with a dry cough:

- Saline drops/spray: Using a saline solution can help loosen mucus and soothe irritation in the nose and throat. You can use an over-the-counter saline spray or drops up to four times per day.

- Humidifier: Running a cool mist humidifier in the baby's room at night can add moisture to the air and prevent drying of the throat and nasal passages.

- Infant vapor rub: Vapor rubs containing menthol can help relieve cough symptoms. Only use a product specifically formulated for babies, and avoid the chest/neck area.

- Extra fluids: Be sure your little one is well hydrated by breastfeeding or bottle feeding frequently. You can also try giving small amounts of water in between feedings.

- Proper suctioning: Gently suction your baby's nose with a bulb syringe after each feeding and before bed to remove excess mucus.

- Comfort measures: Consider giving baby a warm bath, gentle babies massage, or using infant-safe essential oils in a diffuser to help them relax.

- Monitor symptoms: Record details of the cough and bring them to your next pediatrician visit. Seek medical attention sooner if the cough worsens, develops other symptoms like fever or trouble breathing.

Letting the cough run its course with supportive care is usually best for most viral infections at this age. But see me again if you have any concerns or the cough persists longer than 10-14 days without improvement. I'm here if you need any other guidance as well.
