Talk to Pediatrician on Pediatric Breathing And Stomach Issues

person-avatar

Asking For Other, Female 11, Rawalpindi

Assalamu alaykum. My daughter age 11 complains regarding breathing issue. Mostly this issue is accompanied by stomach spasm cramps . Her lips become white.

We got her stool Re and stool culture last month. Both reports were normal. She has such issues since birth. She did one course of entamizole and antiworm 2 months ago. Issues get settled for few days but again appear after some time.

Few years ago she was thoroughly screened for diseases with all blood tests even for thelasemia and Alhamdulillah she was declared healthy.

I would appreciate a little more detail about the symptoms. Is there any accompanying vomiting? Is anyone in the family suffering from migraine? How real is the difficulty in breathing?

From the available history the child seems to have Abdominal Migraine. However, two simple tests need to be done to rule out any organic cause of abdominal pain. Please, get her blood tested for Erythrocytes Sedimentation Rate (ESR) and Urine Routine Examination (RE). Give her paracetamols (Panadol) or ibuprofen (Brufen) early in the pain according to her body weight/age. If it does not work she may need zolmitriptan (Zomig). Those children who get pain more than once in a week are in need of some preventer medicine.
