Talk to Pediatrician on Swollen Red Spot

person-avatar

Asking for Other, Male, 2 years old, Faisalabad

My son is 2 months and 12 days old. The spot of his first vaccination has became swollen and red, which is not even clearly visible before. He don't feel any pain on touching or pressing. Is it ok or something to worry about?

This is the site of injection for protection against TB (tuberculosis) called BCG. It is normal for the infant to have developed a small swelling and redness at the site. It also means that the injection will be effective in providing protection against TB. It may develop into a sore and will leave a scar. Do not use any antibiotic ointment if a sore develops.

If he doesn't feel any pain, then nothing to worry about it at this stage, better is to wait and watch for it's progression or regression, if you fell that this is getting more harder with pus collection then consult with Pediatric surgeon.
