aoa doctor, how many mls of water is required by a baby of age 1 year 3 months per 24 hours. plus, is it mandatory to offer plain water to baby of this age other than other foods and milk, juices etc?
plain water is not mandatory if baby is taking liquid drinks like milk, milk shake, juices etc. even in solids there is water as essential component
According to qualified children nutritionists, based on American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations, a child from 12-24 months of age is suggested to take 240 to 960 mls of water and 480 to 720 mls of milk in a day. 100% juice is very sweet tasting and lacks fiber, an important nutrient found in whole fruit. Once children are exposed to juice, it may be difficult to limit portions or get them to prefer plain water. Whole fruit is therefore preferable over the juice.
