Asking For Someone else, Son, Male, 1?5 Years old, Karachi
My son of age 1.5 year has been passing motions since 3 days back which was accompanied by fever and vomits. He was given panadol and onseron syrup which help him with fever and vomits he no longer has them. My main concern is his motions aren’t stoping, we’re giving him enterogermina since 3 days but it’s not working. He is already given an iv drip from dehydration but is constantly passing motions. He’s on breastfeed and KYB diet. Please help regarding, we’re started sachet biflor and syrup entamizole on our own from last night. Can we give him lactase enzyme if not what can be done?

Diarrhoea is a self limiting disease. Use of antibiotics is not warranted in an otherwise healthy child and may even prolong it. Probiotics may, however, help sometimes. Decreased body water content or dehydration is what we should be worried about. ORS or oral rehydration solution after each watery stool is the most important remedy one should consider. One should avoid sugary drinks like commercial juices or fizzy drinks in diarrhoea. Secondary lactose intolerance is suspected only if diarrhoea persists beyond 7 days.
