Asking for Self, Male, 20 years old, Lahore
I have been suffering from depression and anxiety since last year. Mistakenly went to a cardiologist and he recommended me Alprazolam for a week then told me to switch to Propranolol and have been taking it since then. Physical symptoms are in control due to the medicine but there's too much going on inside my head that is causing me to lose focus, have poor memory, oversleeping, less eating and zero motivation. I want to consult a psychiatrist for medication as I cannot afford therapy. Please recommend me how and where can I consult one as I want to go in person and discuss it in detail. I'd really appreciate it. Location: Lahore.
you better consult any good certified psychiatrist in government setup if you are from Islamabad then PIMS if from pindj then BBH they have good psychiatric setup with qualified psychiatrist
Symptoms of anxiety mimics symptoms of cardiac illness. As you have already been to a cardiologist and he has prescribed you with anxiolytics. Definitely there must be no cardiac issue. Alprazolam and Propranolol are just like panadol for symptomatic/short term relief. But what's the underlying condition/disorder/illness that needs to be assessed and managed. Consult a psychiatrist for detailed assessment and management. Sometimes a patient needs only psychotherapy, sometimes medicine or both can be needed, depends on assessment/diagnosis and severity of illness.
Thank you for asking.
