Asking For Self, Male 31, Karachi
I have controlling parents ever since I have completed my engineering degree they told me not to pursue engineering job and I grew up in an environment where my parents run a school and I have been working in their system. Last year I started working as a lecturer in a university and my parents are not happy about it and they want me to quit the job. I don't like working in school and I think I cannot grow myself professionally. I feel content working in the university. I am a rape survivor for last 17 years and I get flashbacks. Trouble in sleeping, all time thinking about my failures. All the time I think about I am not good enough. All the time I think that I am not strong enough. My parents think that I cannot run the school because of my lack of competence and interest. They force me to get involved in their school again. I don't like to make arguments with parents because then the dialogues are there for hours. Is this PTSD?

Whenever I engage in a discussion with my parents regarding my personal and professional life, I feel too scared. I get suicidal thoughts when I think about losing my loved ones losing my job. Whenever I have this depression, there is always a flashback of the traumatic event. I always feel that I am not confident when I worked at school because the rapist was ex-employee of the school. I find hope and confidence in the university.
visit psychiatrist with your parents for family therapy.

I don't want to involve my parents. I need counseling if I am thinking right or wrong.

counselling is right but you have to involve parents too bcz your few problems are due to family dynamics and that have to be solved.

This can be PTSD. Need more information to make a diagnose. What you should be doing is to take psychotherapy from clinical psychologist and have one or two visits to psychiatrist. This is because mental related problem ls should be treated with medication and psychotherapy both. As treatment with either one of them will result in delay in improvement and relapse will occur soon after termination of psychotherapy or medication.
