Talk to Psychiatry on Any Psychiatrist Who Specialize In Medication Withdrawal?

person-avatar

Asking for Self, Male, 26 years old, Lahore

Salaam, I have been taking RISP for more than 2 years now. It was prescribed because I had a manic episode (bipolar) and initially it was 4mg then it went down to 2mg and currently I'm stable at 1mg.

In my experience, many times the psychiatrist knows how to start people on these medications but unfortunately not many doctors know how to taper off properly. They either just tell the patient to keep taking or taper too fast.

That's why I'm posting here to see If I can find a psychiatrist who is "expert" in the area of medication withdrawal and knows how to do it safely and slowly so that I don't have my symptoms come back again after stopping.

Also, another problem is that I compulsively search the internet looking for information and searching how to stop on my own. It's very overwhelming and confusing but I keep doing this because I can't find any solution.

Looking for expert advice. Thanks.

it depends on the severity and episodes of your disorder. tapering soon is not a good option, u should get consultation. u may get shifted to mood stabilizing drug.

A good rule to follow would be one month of tapering for every year a person has been on antipsychotic medication so a for you it should be 02 months of slow tapering
