Feeling low after being diagnosed with an illness is natural. Undiagnosed diabetes also causes lethargy and poor quality of life and that may add to the worry for a health conscious person. It is good that he has started taking medicine for diabetes and his blood sugars are under control. You people must have consulted a diabetologist. For depression we need a minimum period of two weeks with symptoms of depression, It may be an adjustment disorder with depressive symptoms, for correct treatment we need correct diagnosis and for that a detailed account regarding his mood, activities is required. There is nothing to panic, observe him and if you think he needs help then please do not ignore, take opinion from psychiatrist. Depression is fully treatable. Stay hopeful.
