i have ocd problem. my pshyciatrist prescribed resperidone in addition with effexor xr which was helping but resperudine had alot of side effects due to which my pshyciatrist told me to stop resperidone and start olanzapine. i want to know that olanzapine is good for ocd or not.
olanzapine is good but It do have side effects like weight gain. What are the side effects due to which you want to stop Risperidone??
Olanzapine is better choice for ocd along antidepressant
Salam, I find that some psychiatrists prescribe unnecessary medications when the symptoms can be managed with minimal medications and therapy. I am happy to provide consultation on what is the best form of management for your condition.
For permanent treatment take appointment through marham
OCD can be successfully treated with Antidepressants alone.

Ocd can be treated with medicines and some therapeutic techniques also there are some pacific techniques to avoid the obsessions
The prescribing doctor is the best judge in most cases. First of all we have to assess that it is simple OCD or it symptom of some other illness. If simple OCD than there are three interventions, biological, psychological and social. You say Effexor is good for you. Effexor is good for depression but usually not the choice medicine for OCD, however, if secondary to depression than would definitely be effective. Olanzapine or Risperidone are usually given in those cases of simple OCD not responding to antidepressant alone. However, there are few co-morbidities where they can be given. They all have side effects so should be given where necessary. CBT is psychological intervention usually carried out by Clinical Psychologist. Social intervention is psycho education for caregivers.

Yes, there are about seven commonly used medicines for OCD, six are SSRI and one is Tricyclic antidepressant. Similarly OCD or Behavior therapy is usually advised as psychological intervention.
