Asking for Self, Female, 30 years old, Lahore

Dear Doctor, I am a resident doctor and currently preparing for one of the most important exams of my life. My current issue is that i am facing serious focus deficit and having problem retaining stuff. I take good diet, sleep 7-8 hours on average, and make sure i am not bothered during my prep hours. Still get easily distracted by a thought or sound. And it takes me real hard effort to make my mind get back to work. I need to seek your opinion regarding taking Piracetam or any alternate drug that might help me during this time for enhancing memory and focus. Thanks in advance

P.S. I used Piracetam few years back. It made me super insomniac, but did help with improving focus

salam Dear colleague.
This time where you are in your career is life is known to be stressful and full of anxieties.
been there done it:)
as i am based in the UK
In the UK, piracetam is prescribed mainly for myoclonus, but is used off-label for other conditions. Evidence to support its use for many conditions is unclear.
The goal of taking nootropics like piracetam is to influence receptors in the brain in a way that would be beneficial to cognitive function. Piracetam works as a positive allosteric modulator of acetylcholine and increases the effects of acetylcholine at the receptors.
Symptoms of general excitability, including anxiety, insomnia, irritability, headache, agitation, nervousness, tremor, and hyperkinesia, are occasionally reported. Other reported side effects include somnolence, weight gain, clinical depression, weakness, increased libido, and hyper sexuality.
you should read above carefully before you making the decision of the taking the medication.
my Advice is that to Consider doing relaxing and talking therapies before taking this on board.
if you need any other advice please contact me.
thanks
dr kayani

Its a fairly common issue faced during the examination. A number of factors could be responsible. The most appropriate intervention would require a thorough assessment. If possible drop in at the psychiatry department at your hospital. The solution can vary from simple 30 min daily exercise ( like walk) and a good nights sleep to a trial of an antidepressant. I would suggest to refrain from any self treatment till then.

Poor attention and concentration is a song of stress, anxiety and depression which required proper assessment and if it is just exam related that. You need to get yourself calm and spare sometime for brisk walk, good sleep, proper diet, and strategic study like group study and space reading don’t think about the result just do your best whatever the results are because exams are one day performance, if you are running after the outcome of the exam try not to think in this way because you would be stressed out and the other barriers are unnecessary expectations and we ourselves are uncertain in they way like what if???????? so get you relax if you are panic just take tablet Inderal 10mg 20minutes before exam make sure you have no any respiratory problem thanks
