Asking For Mother, Female 54, karachi

my mother is a grade 4 osteoarthritic patient. so we consulted few doctors and they said she should go for bilateral knee replacement. however shes not ready to go for it. shez overweight too. Any other alternative to slow down the disease process? shes in pain and already on painkillers. Can physiotherapy help her to reduce pain?

for pain relief we have few options, one intraarticular steroid injection in the knee joint. or nerve block / infra red radiation therapy for knee joints.
these can be done by pain specialists.
physiotherapy can help but not to great extent.
In which city she is, according to that i can refer her to pain specialist or you can simply visit any good hospital and ask for pain specialist.

Salam
If very advanced osteoarthritis then knee replacement is a good option. But if your mother is not happy then first she has to reduce her weight, now with bad knees she cannot exercise so diet is very important. Also physio to improve her muscle strength will help her reduce pain.
Best option still is joint surgery.
Also get her a bone density check if not done.

Physio helps, if doesn't.... IA injections (prp, hyaluran or steroid) may be used for relief.
