Asking for Self, Male, 17 years old, Sambrial, Sialkot

Sir , I previously went to a psychiatrist for my treatment of Various symptoms when I asked her about ADHD she simply replied it's not real and is only diagnosed in children. I was devastated to hear that I believed her and took SSRI on her recommendations as I was also suicidal at that time. I am fine but symptoms of ADHD are still persistent it's making my life a living hell. My studies are being adversely affected. A friend of mine game me methylphenidate hydrochloride 10mg(ampheni or Ritalin) it was like magic all my symptoms slowly disappeared after 30 mins of taking the medicine. I studied constantly for 4 hours exercised took a shower and eventually meds effects went off became hungry drank milk and fell asleep. Before that I was even unable to change my college uniform and immediately hoped onto dopamine excessive activities. I don't want to self medicate myself as it's dangerous will you listen to me or do you also believe that ADHD is not real?

Yes it is real... Adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a mental health disorder that includes a combination of persistent problems, such as difficulty paying attention, hyperactivity and impulsive behavior. Adult ADHD can lead to unstable relationships, poor work or school performance, low self-esteem, and other problems.Though it's called adult ADHD, symptoms start in early childhood and continue into adulthood. In some cases, ADHD is not recognized or diagnosed until the person is an adult. Adult ADHD symptoms may not be as clear as ADHD symptoms in children. In adults, hyperactivity may decrease, but struggles with impulsiveness, restlessness and difficulty paying attention may continue.

Treatment for adult ADHD is similar to treatment for childhood ADHD. Adult ADHD treatment includes medications, psychological counseling (psychotherapy) and treatment for any mental health conditions that occur along with ADHD.

Hi ADHD is a neuro developmental disorder and can be diagnosed at any age but problems should be lasting since always. So u r born with it but diagnosis may be at any age due to different factors.Ritalin is firstline treatment for it. It gives good control of symptoms( not cure) and can be used as long as symptoms are concerning
