According to Sindh Minister for Information Sharjeel Inam Memon, the deadly dengue virus killed at least seven people in Karachi on Tuesday. Hundreds of dengue patients are taken to hospitals on a daily basis, the city is experiencing an “outbreak” of dengue in Karachi.
Senator Sherry Rehman, Minister for Climate Change, previously stated that there has been a 50% increase in dengue virus infections, particularly in Karachi.
Despite the fact that rescue activities are ongoing in flood-affected regions, many individuals are still stranded in the water and suffering from dengue and other vector-borne and water-borne illnesses.
According to Memon, the death toll from the floods and storms in Sindh alone has reached 638. Sindh continues to be the worst-affected province, getting 466% more rain than typical during this year’s monsoon.
Ali Sohri, a member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA), and Administrator Baldia Gharbi Syed Shabia Al Hasan launched a spray campaign to eradicate dengue and malaria on Monday, 12 September.
Speaking on the occasion, Ali Sohri stated that the efforts being done to erase public problems in district West are noteworthy, as all personnel of West Municipality are involved in fixing public problems under the supervision of the administrator and municipal commissioner.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said in an interview:
“There are still hundreds of people without tents who are living under the stars, I would want to appeal to all nations to provide us tents as soon as possible so that we can provide at least temporary shelter to the afflicted families.”
He further reported that more than 12.5 million people had become homeless in Sindh, highlighting the extent of the destruction caused by floods.
Minister for Climate Change, Sherry Rehman, said the following in an interview:
“Karachi is seeing an outbreak of dengue while 584,246 people are in camps throughout the country; a health crisis could wreak havoc if it goes unchecked”.
According to information acquired from various sources, both private and public sector hospitals are now seeing a significant number of dengue cases, with the majority of patients reporting at outpatient departments and private clinics with flu-like signs and symptoms being diagnosed with dengue.
Sindh Infectious Disease Hospital and Research Centre, Dow University Hospital, Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), National Institute of Child Health (NICH), and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre are among the hospitals with the most dengue patients in Karachi.
According to sources, the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) had the most deaths eleven in the last six weeks, followed by the Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) with three deaths, the Indus Hospital with two fatalities, and South City Hospital reported one death.
