The Election Commission of Pakistan announced a public holiday on Feb 8, 2024, to allow the voters to cast their votes easily and freely.
A public holiday is announced on general election day on February 8, 2024, according to the notification issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday.
The electoral authority added that the public general election holiday will allow votes to vote conveniently and freely, as the country (Pakistan) witnesses the polls conduction after more than five years.
The announcement was made following a key meeting held at the electoral authority office in Islamabad, where conversations around the state of law and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and Balochistan have also happened.
A day before, the government of Punjab made the decision to keep schools, colleges, and universities across the Punjab province closed from February 6, 2024, to February 9, 2024, due to general elections and Kashmir Day.
According to the Punjab cabinet, the educational institutions holiday would be for both public and private educational institutes.

In a post on X, the Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said “In view of the upcoming general elections on 8th February, Provincial Cabinet has approved that all public and private sector schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab will be closed from Feb 6th to 9th.”
Moreover, he added that the 9:30 am opening timings for schools will only be followed till February 3, 2024. After that, regular school timings will be observed.
General elections 2024 are a week away and the reports are indicating that public and private educational institutions across the country will get 8 holidays from Feb 4, 2024, to Feb 12, 2024.
As per the reports, February 4 is Sunday, February 5 is Kashmir Day, and from February 6 to 10 there will be General Election holidays.
Moreover, February 11, 2024, will be Sunday, and hence schools, colleges, and universities will reopen on February 12, 2024, after 8 holidays.
