The caretaker government will suspend the internet connections on election day (February 8, 2024), only if any request is made by the province or district in the view of security situation.
Interim Interior Minister Dr Gohar Ejaz said in a press on Tuesday “So far, there has been no decision made regarding the suspension of internet services at any place.”
A day earlier, caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi, said that the internet would not shut down on February 8, 2024. He said that the local administrations have the authority to decide in the light of the law and order whether to shut the internet down or not.
Later on Sunday, caretaker Balochistan Information Minister Jan Achakzai informed that the internet service will remain temporarily restricted in the sensitive polling stations in Balochistan on Feb, 8.
Interim Interior Minister Dr Gohar Ejaz said that the government is making efforts to hold peaceful elections without any loss of lives.
“The election atmosphere in Sindh is full of excitement and it does not seem that any political party has enmity with another,” said Gohar Ejaz.

He added that we do not want to take the law into our hands in Sindh, “The parties contesting the polls in Sindh have known each other for years.”
The interior minister Ejaz said that the government will provide security in 3 layers. “The commandos will be deployed in Balochistan to respond in the shortest possible time,” he added.
“Police, civil armed forces, and army will give you protection. We will not let anyone raise an eyebrow against the integrity and independence of Pakistan,” he stated.
Dr Gohar Ejaz added that there are 90,777 polling stations in the country. Out of which over 40,000 polling stations have been declared normal. Moreover, 20,985 polling stations have been reported as sensitive and 16,766 polling stations have been reported as the most sensitive ones.
Approximately 7-8 law enforcement officials will be posted at each polling station in the country. And over 137,000 law enforcement agencies have been positioned across the country.
“Pakistan Army troops will be deployed as quick reaction force (QRF),” added Dr. Gohar Ejaz.
The minister further expressed that people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), which suffers the most from terrorism, should come out and vote on February 8, 2024.
Ejaz said that the government has to protect the lives of all citizens.
