As we are going months into COVID19, the vaccines that were in works are showing their results. Similarly, the Moderna vaccine has entered its stage III trials. A study which is done on the candidate of Moderna Inc’s COVID19 vaccine showed a good production of the virus-neutralizing antibodies in older adults. These antibody levels are at the levels which are similar to those seen in younger adults, with side effects almost little to none.
According to another study, the results are reassuring because immunity tends to weaken with age and this vaccine has shown better results regardless of the age factor. The study focused on the two tested doses of the Moderna COVID19 vaccine which were 25 micrograms and 100 micrograms tested on 40 adults that were aged 56 to 70 and 71 and older.
The study shows that the adults who received two injections of the 100 microgram dose 28 days apart resulted in the immune responses similar to the ones that are seen in younger adults. Moreover, on the other hand, the side effects that were experienced included headaches, fatigue, body aches, chills, and injection site pain/ Side effects were mild to moderate.
Side effects that were experienced, occurred shortly after the candidates received the vaccine and were also resolved quickly. These were similar to what a lot of older adults are going to experience with the high dose influenza vaccine. They might feel a little off or have a fever for a short period of time. According to some people who have taken a comparatively lighter dose said that they experienced no side effects at all. Furthermore, they are willing to continue participating in the trial.
