After celebrating Eid ul Adha, Muslims around the world are all set to welcome the Islamic New Year 2024, which is expected to begin on July 7, 2024.
The first Muharram, the first Islamic month, is anticipated to be observed on July 7, 2024, Sunday, upon the moon sighting.
With the start of the month of Muharram, Muslims will prepare to observe Ashura. It holds profound spiritual and historical importance to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions at the Battle of Karbala.
Ashura Holidays in Pakistan
In Pakistan, the government has announced 2 consecutive public holidays for Ashura. These holidays will be on 9 and 10 Muharram.
The exact dates of 9 and 10 Muharram will be decided by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on the basis of the Moon sighting of the Muharram. If the moon is sighted on the July 6 evening, then Muharram will be on July 7, 2024. As a result, Ashura will be on July 16 and July 16 (Monday and Tuesday).
In this scenario, the Muharram holidays in Pakistan will be on July 15 and July 16, 2024.
On the other hand, if Muharram starts on July 8, 2024, then Ashura will be on July 16 and July 17. This will result in the Muharram holidays in Pakistan on July 16 and July 17, 2024 (Tuesday and Wednesday).
